The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the first film in the two-part fantasy adventure series directed by Peter Jackson. The film, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit will act as a prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the inquisitive hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, travels to the Lonely Mountain. Led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield, and accompanied with a group of dynamic Dwarves, they set out to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor stolen from the dragon Smaug. While journeying to the Lonely Mountain, Bilbo and his gaggle encounter a series of treacherous adventures. Faced with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers, the group’s determination is put to the test. Along the way Bilbo meets Gollum, a creature that will alter his life for eternity. Bilbo Baggins discovers immense guile and courage that surprise even him, and also gains possession of Gollum's irreplaceable ring. The simple gold ring is united with the destiny of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to fathom.
