INside/OUT - Art As Healing Therapy
June 9, 2011
Add Review/Comment
The core of (InSIDE)/OUT!, Art as Healing Therapy focuses on a collaboration between ArtServe members and participants from organizations who currently operate art therapy programs. The artwork showcased will reflect on the value of the arts and show how this value transcends into one of the largest segments in our population – individual’s living with disabilities.
Opening night slated for June 9, 2011, will feature art work of children, adults and adolescence living with disabilities who are actively involved in art therapy programs together with the work of south Florida artists who recognize the healing effects of their artistic exercise. Art Therapy exhibitions including visual arts and music will be showcased throughout the evening. This unique and extremely emotional exhibit combines many perspectives to produce a one of a kind experience unlike any other art opening.
"As a result of a childhood illness I developed some physical disabilities which have made certain activities in life difficult for me. I am legally blind and have partial paralysis on one side of my body. I started to paint in middle school as a way to channel my positive energy and I began to use art as an outlet to express my emotions in ways that I was unable to in other aspects of my life. My teachers in high school and college noticed my talent for painting and encouraged me to continue. They were both very inspirational to me and taught me many styles and techniques. Painting makes me feel happy and helps me to relax and resolve any problems I may be experiencing in my life. Watching the progress of a painting from start to finish is a very satisfying experience for me. I especially enjoy painting pictures with bright and vibrant colors which give my works a life of their own. Subjects I enjoy to paint the most include island scenes, flowers, and abstracts. I paint such subjects on a regular basis, and these works are true representations of me." -Jason Rosenstock
