The Third Ave Art District in downtown Fort Lauderdale will celebrate its annual Artwalk. The nine artists of the district will open their studios to the community on February 5, 2011 from 6-10pm .The Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale will also open its doors to the public as part of the tour.
This group of professional artists has persistently focused its' efforts on creating a visual arts district in Fort Lauderdale. In the professional world, these artists are national and international award winning talents visible in museum and public and private collections.
Printmaker Rosanna Saccoccio's delicate prints have expanded into a new series of mixed media collaged paintings that will be on view. Rosanna first bought a two-story building for her studio over 40 years ago. Since 1995, the additional eight artists have bought, built, or rented space in the area.
Artists in the district include Francie Bishop Good showing a new series of photographs based on Identity. In her front gallery space, the show, A Longer Shinbone, curated by Catalina Jaramillo and Jacqueline Falcone will be on view. Tin Ly will add to his large, painterly sculptures, a new series of drawings on bamboo sheaths. Madeline Denaro will display her restive, abstract paintings from her current theme, Inside Out. Mary Lou Siefker will include her mysterious, acrylic shrouded figure paintings. Wilma Bulkin Siegel, will be showing her new watercolor series related to portraits, Physicians for Human Rights. Her guest artist for the evening will be potter, Klawdia Proia. Public Artist Tobey Archer will exhibit her neon and fiber optic work and a new photographic series, Faces of Indochine. Janet Gold will be featuring a series of intimate, mixed media collages. Margi Glavovic Nothard, the architectural designer of the group, will reveal her latest designs, blurring the boundaries between art and architecture.
Participating once again will be the Museum of Art/Fort Lauderdale-Nova Southeastern University featuring, Tom Wesselman Draws, and extending their hours until 9pm for the special event.
Also featured in this year's ArtWalk is the exhibition, Frances Trombly: Paintings, presented by Girls' Club, a non-profit alternative space exhibiting contemporary art by women.
Free trolleys will be available to escort visitors from one location to another throughout the night. This is a special chance to meet the artists or even start an art collection. It is an opportunity to engage in the creative experience of the artist's studio setting and to purchase professional artwork.
