    Can Film Festival for Charity

    Admission for all films, with the exception of Sunday morning Cafe Cinematheque, is free with the donation of 2 canned or boxed food items or a new unwrapped toy to benefit The Children's Diagnostic and Treatment Center.

    7:30 pm - The House Without a Christmas Tree (1972)
    Starring: Jason Robards and Lisa Lucas
    Special guest: Star Lisa Lucas

    Prior to the film at 6:30pm - Join us for...

    The 12 Dogs of Christmas (2005)
    During the Great Depression, a young girl’s love for dogs teaches the residents of a small town the true meaning of Christmas. The finale includes over 100 dogs! (rated G)

     

    Noon - The Angel Doll (2003)
    An inspirational story originally made for television and adapted from the bestselling novel by Jerry Bledsoe, described by Publisher’s Weekly as “Affecting. Poignant. Authentically moving.” The true meaning of Christmas is seen through the eyes of two boys growing up in North Carolina in the 1950s and the determination of one of the boys to find an angel doll for his ill sister for Christmas. (not rated – would be G )

    2pm - Jingle All the Way (1996)
    It’s a fight to the finish as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad compete to find a Turbo Man action figure in time for the holidays in this Christmas comedy. Rita Wilson and Phil Hartman are also in the cast. (rated PG)

    4pm - Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights (2002)
    Adam Sandler provides the voice for the three lead characters in this animated film centering on the problems of Davey Stone, who avoids jail time by doing community service during the Hanukkah season. (rated PG – 13)

    6pm - Scrooged (1988)
    What are the holidays without a version of the Dickens classic? Here, Bill Murray is a television executive who learns some important lessons when he’s visited by three spirits as he prepares a Christmas Eve broadcast of “A Christmas Carol.” Scrooge’s ultimate lesson is reflected in the film’s finale, the song “Put a Little Love in Your Heart.” (rated PG 13)

    8pm - The Hebrew Hammer (2003)
    An orthodox Jewish blaxploitation hero (described as “Part Man. Part Street. 100% Kosher.”) saves Hanukkah from the clutches of Santa Claus's evil son. The film generated great controversy during its production due to its clever use of parodies; the original script called for a cameo from US Senator Joseph Lieberman, but when he turned it down, the role went to former New York City Mayor Edward I. Koch. (rated R)

    Presents
    Joyeux Noel (2005)
    In this Oscar-nominated French film (Best Foreign Language Film), troops from both sides call a truce on a Christmas Eve during World War I. The cast includes Dany Boon from “Micmacs,” featured in the French Film Festival at Cinema Paradiso. (rated PG-13)

    2pm - Yogi’s First Christmas (1980)
    Yogi Bear, Boo Boo and Cindy Bear are awakened from hibernation and decide to try and stay awake to celebrate Christmas with their friends at Jellystone Lodge, but end up helping to save their beloved lodge from closing by preventing a couple of mischief-makers from ruining the holiday. (rated G)

    4pm - It Happened On 5th Avenue (1947)
    Often neglected holiday film about a homeless man and his friends who move into a Fifth Avenue mansion in New York City to spend the holidays while the family who lives there is wintering in the South. The film features four songs, including “That’s What Christmas Means to Me.” (not rated – would be G)

    6pm - Christmas in the Clouds (2001)
    Mistaken identity and holiday romantic comedy at a ski resort owned by a Native American Nation. Shot on location at Utah’s Sundance Resort, this film is billed as the first contemporary romantic comedy to feature an almost entirely American Indian cast. The film was featured at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival. (rated PG)
