Richard Florida, best-selling author and one of the world’s leading public intellectuals on economic development and trends in business and communities, will present new ideas from his latest book, The Great Reset on Thursday, Dec. 2 at Nova Southeastern University.

Florida’s talk will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at NSU’s Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center, 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr. Blvd. in Davie.

Florida is the director of the Martin Prosperity Institute, Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto; author of The Great Reset, The Rise of the Creative Class and Who’s Your City?; and the founder of the Creative Class Group. Florida’s new book, The Great Reset, explains how new ways of living and working will drive post-crash prosperity. Florida’s ideas on the “creative class,” commercial innovation, and regional development have been featured in major ad campaigns from BMW and Apple, and are being used globally to change the way regions and nations do business and transform their economies; they are of particular interest to leaders in Broward County.

As a regular correspondent for The Atlantic and a regular columnist for The Globe and Mail, Florida has been featured as an expert on MSNBC, CNN, BBC, NPR and CBS. He has also written for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Economist, and The Harvard Business Review; and been appointed to the Business Innovation Factory’s Research Advisory Council and recently named European Ambassador for Creativity and Innovation.

History proves that great economic downturns are opportunities to remake society. Florida’s ( what is his degree? ) talk comes at an auspicious time for a renaissance in the Broward County area, with the announcement of the Cultural Division’s Creative Broward 2020, a plan for Cultural and Economic Development in Broward County; the Southeast Florida Regional Partnership’s award of the Sustainable Communities Planning Grant by an interagency federal partnership; and the completion of the New Broward County Targeted Industries Study released by the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development in conjunction with the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward Alliance.
