Spring 1947, a little village on the river banks of the Garonne, in the south west of France. 12 year old Pierrot and his little brother live at the Cafe du Pont. Their parents toil to make ends meet at the cafe which is the centre of everyone’s lives in this quaint little town. The war and the occupation haven’t made things easy. Pierrot whiles away the afternoons fishing in the canal, playing or visiting his grandmother. Despite the hardships of school, Pierrot grows up to the rhythm of the seasons. He discovers music, and learns the saxophone, performing his first concerts for the customers of the Café. He is surrounded by the love of his parents and his grandmother. Since the German occupation, Pierrot’s family struggled to make ends meet like many. Everyone in the family works together to accomplish Pierrot’s father’s dream: to open a grand ballroom in the village...

This very simple and delightful tale captures a slice of life during a nostalgic, sometimes sweet, sometimes hard period of French provincial life in the 40's. Unlike typical narratives, you watch the film as if you are witnessing the events firsthand as a patron of the cafe. The film captures the French love for the countryside, the routines of family life, the workings of the village and more in a delightful, easy going, day by day style that is as refreshing as it is distinct.
