ArtsJournal’s Founder & Editor Doug McLennan Presents: A Strategy for Culture in the Age of Infinite Choice Art Journal's editor Doug McLennan, formerly an arts columnist and arts reporter with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and Seattle Weekly, will speak on May 6, 2010. The workshop, A Strategy for Culture in the Age of Infinite Choice, will be held at ArtServe at 1350 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, 8:30 a.m. until Noon. Learn how the 21st century cultural organization may need to adapt to changing media in order to succeed. McLennan writes on the arts for a number of publications and is currently acting director of the National Arts Journalism Program. His presentation, A Strategy for Culture in the Age of Infinite Choice, will address the cultural landscape of the United States looking at its diversity and the growing choices and accessibilities that are reshaping and transforming the culture of the nation. He will address the way cultural organizations must frame their marketing strategies to incorporate these newly emerging dynamics. McLennan feels that the United States is ‘shedding a cultural business model based on a need to get the word out with limited distribution pipes, and into a world where infinite choices seem to overwhelm the consumer. In such a market place, concerts compete with video games which compete with Facebook and other instant, on-demand distractions,” says McLennan. “The attention of audiences is an ever changing target that requires a new way of thinking and focus, in order to capture.”
