Add Review/Comment
The Fort Lauderdale’s 31st festival sea-son March 6 to May 8, 2010 includes the March 6 MIASF Waterway Cleanup; the March 18 - 21st Dania Beach Marine Flea Market; National Week of the Ocean April 4 - 10; the April 17 & 18 Plywood Regatta; the April 30 - May 2 Week of the Ocean School Marine Fair and the May 8 Mother Ocean Day Community Awards & Film.
The theme EXPLORING & CARING FOR THE OCEAN offers many possibilities for this 26th annual event. The celebration is sponsored by Fort Lauderdale-based National Week of the Ocean, Inc., a group dedicated to educating young people to develop a sense of stewardship towards the ocean.
Joining astronaut/aquanaut Scott Carpenter in initially endorsing the event was a panel of renowned ocean pioneers including Norman Baker, Thor Heyerdahl's navigator for the Ra I & II voyages; zoologist and shark expert, Eugenie Clark; marine biologist Sylvia Earle; aquaculture pioneer Tap Pryor; Andreas Rechnitzer, record diver, Trieste; and Stan Waterman, Emmy-winning underwater photographer. National Week of the Ocean invites everyone to learn more about these twentieth-century ocean pioneers.
