Guest curator Gary Monroe, who wrote the seminal book about the Highwaymen, selected over 40 exceptional paintings by the collective’s eight primary artists. Through their vision we see an idealized version of the Florida that perfectly suited those looking to find Paradise in the 1960s. The Highwaymen’s journey is complemented by wall text that explores how these young African Americans prevailed as entrepreneurs and overcame Jim Crow obstacles that they faced along their way to achieve the American dream.
