First coming to prominence in the early '90s Charlie Hunter has since become one of the leading names in jazz, recording 17 albums, touring relentlessly, and earning a Grammy nomination. Hunter is noted for playing custom-made seven and eight-string guitars, on which he simultaneously plays basslines, rhythm guitar, and solos. Critic Sean Westergaard describes Hunter's innovative guitar technique as "mind-boggling ... he's an agile improviser with an ear for great tone, and always has excellent players alongside him in order to make great music, not to show off." He has a style that has to be heard – and seen - to be believed. Hunter maintains a busy performance and recording schedule but he has not appeared in South Florida in over 3 years. In a recent interview with NPR’s Liane Hansen, Mr. Hunter specifically mentioned his upcoming Ft. Lauderdale concert which is sure to be packed full of just as many new Hunter fans (thanks to recent work with Norah Jones, John Mayer, and John Scofield) as it will be with seasoned jazz fans who have never had a chance to witness him perform.
