The Coral Springs Craft Guild presents the multi-talented craftsman, Jan Miller, of Fort Lauderdale. Jan will teach a free hands-on workshop to learn the art of weaving. No weaving knowledge required, all supplies will be provided. This is a free hands-on program offered by the Coral Springs Craft Guild (your local non-profit crafting organization) for all crafters in nearby cities. Come make new friends and meet the local crafting community. Java wRaps (coffee cup holders) will be created, and Jan will explain how the technique that she will be teaching can be adapted by variations in cardboard shape, warping patterns, weaving pattern, weft materials, etc. to create additional projects such as a scissor holster in the shape of an ice cream cone, cell phone holders, and weed pockets. All supplies are included but please bring any leftover natural fibers you have to make the project truly your own, a pair of scissors, a crochet hook (of almost any size from a 00 steel hook up to about a G) if you have one, and a fork. The program is open to the public and there is no charge for the kit to make the java wRaps. However, a donation would be appreciated to cover the cost of the supplies. Jan Miller has been an artist (specializing in portraits, calligraphy and photography) for all her life, an art teacher for 27 years and a fiber artist (spinning, weaving, quilting, baskets and beads) for nearly as long. She has lived in Wilton Manors for 30 years and currently teaches 5K--12th grade art and the elementary gifted class at Florida Bible Christian School. One career highlight was designing the Broward County Millennium Quilt.
