The prefecture of Okinawa, Japan, was decimated during World War II. Inhabitants were left homeless and without their worldly goods. A special immigration program was formed between the Diaspora of Japanese immigrants to the US and the Bolivian government. It was a rescue mission to bring Okinawans from the battlefield to the new frontier in the Bolivian jungle. Okinawa Ark is an exhibition consisting of video and photo installations. It is a collaboration between the artist, Kanako Sasaki, and three generations of residents in this unique South American community.
