Women's History Month Event: Art, Performances, & Workshops

Join the Sailboat Bend Artists Lofts an event in honor of women, as visual and multi-disciplinary artists tackle edgy themes such as female circumcision, gender identity, woman's missing role in government, important women whom history has all but ignored, powerful spiritual women, violence against women, and the re-emerging sacred feminine. Works include oil and acrylic painting, mixed media drawings, photography, performance art, tapestry-work, video, and multi-media installation, featuring 'Rubbing it Raw' a solo show by Lisa Rockford whose frottage paintings challenge common stereotypes and reinvent cultural iconography. Performing artists (including local band, Radioboxer) entertain with live music, dance, theatre, and spoken word. The night includes limited open-mic time for those inspired by the show: the audience is encouraged to bring material in honor of women. The event kicks off with afternoon workshops in art for the community. Artists will include: Anamaria Aconda, Vanya Allen, Karen Flesch, Niki Lopez, Kate McCarthy, Tabatha Mudra, Brooklyn Murphy, Cynthia Nichols, Nzinghah Oniwozan, Claudia Polzer, Laqui Quiroga, Michelle Riu, Kristie Stephenson, Nerissa Street, Jennifer Toohey, Sista Idya, Emily Wolverton.
