The Starfish Luncheon is an annual event at which Women In Distress honors and thanks key supporters in the community. This meaningful affair attracts over 325 advocates of the organization and the cause from near and far. Featuring an auction, entertainment, raffles, and much more, one primary goal of the Starfish Luncheon is to raise much needed funds in support of emergency shelter and support services for victims of domestic violence and their children. The recognition paid to the Starfish Honorees signifies how the life changing and life saving services at Women In Distress would not be possible without generous contributions of time and resources from sponsors, friends, and fellow community advocates. The 'Starfish' theme is inspired from the popular starfish story by Loren Eiseley which exemplifies how each and every one of us can make a difference-one person at a time. Following that theme, the Starfish Luncheon honors those who are making a difference in the lives of domestic violence victims in Broward County.
