This exhibition highlights the significance of the Renaissance (or "Rebirth") of classical art in fifteenth and sixteenth century Europe and its influence on the history of Western art. Works in this installation include Benjamin West's Anne, Countess of Northampton, and Her Daughter and Eduard Veith's The Holy Family (Rest on the Flight into Egypt) which contain direct references to Italian Renaissance compositions. West's portrait of the Countess and her daughter is based on two of Raphael's most famous paintings in the Palazzo Pitti in Florence, Italy - the Madonna della Sedia and the Madonna del Granduca.
