During celebrations, initiations, crop harvesting, war preparation, peace and troubled times, African masks are worn by a chosen dancer. African masks often represent a spirit and it is strongly believed that the spirit of the ancestors possess the wearer. Come celebrate Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and design your own mask to take home! Another part of the celebration is a presentation about Madagascar. Did you know that over 80% of the plants and animals found on Madagascar are not found anywhere else on Earth? It is the fourth largest island in the world. After it separated from India 100 million years ago, natural selection dramatically produced unique organisms and adaptations specific to the island. In this presentation you'll learn about the odd animals that call Madagascar home.
