Word Up! Poetry Slam

Presented by City of Sunrise Foundation at Sunrise Civic Center Theatre and Gallery

 This competition for Broward County middle- and high-school students places a dual emphasis on writing and performance. Student poets will have an opportunity to create and deliver an inspirational, original work that focuses on one of three topics: education, charity or empowerment.
Up to 50 poets can register to audition, but only 20 will be selected to compete
at the Word Up! Poetry Slam. Rules and registration forms are available at
www.cityofsunrisefoundation.org. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Broward County middle- and high-school students compete in a poetry slam with a positive twist. Participants will deliver original three-minute poems on education, charity, empowerment and other uplifting themes. 

 The event will feature emcee Ray “Knowledge” Dominguez and a performance by his award-winning Write Side Poets - as seen on HBO’s “Russell Simmons Presents Brave New Voices.”
