Flamingo Gardens is searching for South Florida artists to create imaginative versions of scarecrows for the 2010 Great Scarecrow Competition. Through Sept. 28, we're accepting applications for inclusion in our 2010 Great Scarecrow Competition. We’re looking for artistic interpretations of scarecrows to be displayed throughout the botanical gardens at Flamingo Gardens from October 2-31, 2010. Use your imagination to select a theme for your scarecrow. Whether you choose a traditional, contemporary or humorous approach, is up to you. Your scarecrow can be whimsical, frightening, funny or sad. Scary and Frightening Scarecrows will be placed in the West Arboretum, while all others will be placed in the East Arboretum to maintain a “Child-friendly” section. Over $500 worth of prizes will be distributed including a Best in Show and People’s Choice Award. There is no fee to enter and the contest is open to the public. All entrants will be given two complimentary passes to Flamingo Gardens.
