 ng in Miami\, Karen Starosta-Gilinski is a contemporary artist that takes 
 provocative textured objects and alters them\; she starts to break them ap
 art or cut open a plush toy and put it together with another object until 
 it becomes visually satisfying and strong enough to express the unique loo
 k of a character or situation. The results are whimsical\, humorous\, and 
 at times unsettling works of art. For Cloud 9_she will show pieces from he
 r _Cotton Candy Sculpture Series (2009-2010) as well as her Large-Scale Sc
 ulpture Series (2011-2012). This series of standing and hanging sculptures
  seem cute and innocent at first\, but actually involves psychology and ex
 plores personality traits ranging from tender and sweet to menacing and co
 mplicated.\nKaren Starosta-Gilinski obtained a BFA and graduated Cum Laude
  from The Miami International University of Art & Design. Her work has bee
 n exhibited throughout the US\, Europe\, Latin America\, and Asia and is i
 ncluded in important private collections in the US\, South America\, and E
 urope. Her work has appeared in various publications\, including T_he Miam
 i Herald_\, Brickell Reporter\, El Nuevo Herald\, and The New Times\, amon
