 Miami is a special new regional program offered by YoungArts\, the core pr
 ogram of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA). Young
 Arts Miami is designed to provide Miami's diverse community of gifted high
  school juniors and seniors with the tools to embrace their aspirations fo
 r a meaningful career in the arts. No audition required: open to all 2010-
 2011 high school juniors and seniors in the visual\, literary and performi
 ng arts who want to create the next generation of excellence in the arts. 
 Parents and teachers also are encouraged to attend. There is no cost to pa
 rticipate in YoungArts Miami or attend the kick-off celebration weekend. T
 hrough YoungArts Miami\, participants will enjoy a year filled with inform
 ative monthly workshops\; the opportunity to meet their artistic peers\; a
 ccess to resources and scholarships in the arts\; career guidance\; portfo
 lio development\; and other experiences including master classes\, showcas
 e performances and exhibitions. During the kick-off celebration on Saturda
 y\, May 15\, 2010\, students will be encouraged to apply to the prestigiou
 s YoungArts program\, which includes opportunities for national recognitio
 n as one of ' YoungArts finalists\, and a chance to be nominated to the Wh
 ite House Commission on Presidential Scholars as one of 20 Presidential Sc
 holars in the Arts. Students will also enjoy a performance by YoungArts Al
 umni as well as a dialogue with arts educators and patrons about what it t
 akes to achieve excellence in the arts. On Sunday\, May 16\, dancer\, chor
 eographer and teacher Lazaro Godoy and actor/writer/director Teo Castellan
 o will lead a dance workshop for high school students. Castellano will foc
 us on ensemble building\, awareness\, imagination\, and movement stemming 
 from a Zen approach. Godoy will teach students to become familiar with the
 ir bodies while welcoming the unknown and unexpected. He will also share m
 ovements from his latest choreography. At the end of the workshop\, studen
 ts will break up into smaller groups and create a short piece to present t
 o the class. YoungArts Miami is made possible through a generous challenge
  grant by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation's Knight Arts Challen
 ge\, and with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural 
 Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council\, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and
  Board of County Commissioners\, and in part by The Children's Trust.\n\nS
